I used a red corset I owned to pattern the vest
I haven’t worked with leather or buckskin in a long time, and with leather you only get one try. As well I decided after I wore it a couple times that I was going to dye the skin to bring it to a deeper brown. The lovely people at the leather store had never heard of dyeing buckskin, but it worked. The dye job is patchy, but it matches what I wanted, a rougher, worn look.
The original sheepskin was SUPER yellow, and the colouring, both from the original and the dyed versions, rub off on anything I’m wearing overtop.
Sheep skin $33
Suede lacing $19 (full roll)
Leather dye $20 (2 bottles)
Accessories – $30
Total ~ $200
